A Verruca is a viral infection that commonly occur on the soles of the feet or around the toe area. They are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV),
Warts and verrucas are small lumps on the skin that most people have at some point in their life. They usually go away on their own but may take months or even years.
Verrucae is a benign neo-plasm originating from the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It can survive for some time outside the body. To become active it needs a host cell to infect and it finds this in the upper layers of the skin known as the epidermis, often entering through cuts or abrasions. Approximately 60% of verrucae will resolve within 2 years of appearing however, they can be very resistant, unsightly and cause discomfort.
If you have diabetes or poor circulation, are pregnant or have any other condition affecting your feet (or your immune system), it is important never to treat a verruca yourself and instead visit a podiatrist. If you are worried about your verruca and/or self-treatment is not working and/or the verruca appears to be getting larger or more painful, visit a podiatrist .
